Obverse description Four-line inscription filling the field, reading VOTO / ARGENT / NA CIVI / TAS, referencing the city of Argentoratum (Strasbourg). The letters are rendered in the bold, angular style characteristic of Ottonian-era hammered coinage. A beaded border surrounds the entire design. The crude but legible lettering reflects the hand-engraved dies typical of mid-tenth century episcopal minting.
