| Obverse description | Central cross pattee enclosed within a plain inner circle, the arms of the cross nearly reaching the circle. The surrounding field bears the retrograde or irregularly spaced Latin legend PHILIPVS REX arranged around the periphery between the inner circle and the beaded outer border. The entire design is characteristic of the crude hammered workmanship typical of early 13th-century French royal billon coinage. |

| Reverse description | A stylised chatel tournois (castle of Tours) depicted frontally at centre, consisting of a rectangular tower with crenellated battlements and three pellets arranged within the body of the structure, flanked by lateral walls with turrets. The design is enclosed within a plain inner circle, with the Latin legend SCS MARTINVS disposed around the periphery between the inner circle and the beaded outer border, preceded by a cross pattee. The reverse type invokes Saint Martin of Tours, the patron saint of the abbey of Saint-Martin de Tours, from whose monetary tradition the tournois coinage derives. |
