Aanvullende informatie

Charles de Blois struck these deniers during the later phase of the War of Breton Succession, a conflict that had already consumed two decades by the time this issue began. His claim to the duchy ran through his wife Jeanne de Penthièvre and was backed by the French crown, yet his grip on Rennes — where these were struck — remained contested against the rival Montfort faction supported by England. He was captured at La Roche-Derrien in 1347 and spent nine years as an English prisoner; these coins post-date his release and represent his resumed administration of those territories still loyal to him.
