| Obverse description | Central field displays a plain cross pattée extending to the inner beaded border, dividing the field into four quarters. A small crown surmounts the intersection of the cross arms, a characteristic feature of the tournois type adapted for Breton coinage. The surrounding circular legend reads KAROLVS R DVX, introduced by a cross pommée, all within a beaded inner circle. The flan is irregular and slightly ragged at the edges, typical of mid-14th century hammered billon coinage. The style is consistent with the denier tournois tradition inherited from the royal French series. |
