Denier - Theoderic V Vlaardingen mint

Theoderic V ruled Holland through a period of persistent conflict with the Bishop of Utrecht, whose territorial claims over the Rhine delta kept the county in near-constant low-level warfare throughout the 1070s and 1080s. The Vlaardingen mint was one of the few revenue-generating instruments firmly under comital control during this pressure, making its output as much a political instrument as a commercial one.
