Theoderic I ruled Upper Lotharingia from 984 until his death in 1026, a tenure long enough to produce a coherent coinage even amid the turbulent politics of the Ottonian-Salian transition. The mint at Andernach, sited on the Rhine, operated under shifting comital and episcopal jurisdictions throughout the tenth and eleventh centuries, making precise attribution of individual dies within this period genuinely difficult. Dann Sa#443 represents the scholarly consensus, but competing attributions exist in older literature.
