| Beschrijving voorzijde | Frontal effigy of the ruler in Byzantine imperial style, depicted wearing a crown and the loros, the ceremonial imperial vestment. In his right hand he holds a cross-sceptre, while his left hand bears a globus cruciger, emblems of Christian sovereign authority. The bust is rendered in a schematic, flat manner characteristic of Crusader billon coinage of the late twelfth century. The flan is irregular and the strike weak, as is typical of contemporary hammered issues from the Latin East. |
