| 表面の説明 | Central field dominated by a shield bearing the arms of Upper Alsace: a diagonal bend sinister charged with a row of pellets (bezants), flanked in the upper dexter and lower sinister cantons by stylized eagles or heraldic charges. The shield is enclosed within a plain inner circle, itself surrounded by a broad outer border composed of a continuous row of raised beads (pearl border). No legend is present; the design is entirely heraldic in character, consistent with the small hammered billon coinage of the late sixteenth-century Habsburg administration of Upper Alsace. |

Ferdinand II ruled Tyrol and the Further Austrian territories — including Upper Alsace — as an archduke rather than emperor, a distinction that shaped the monetary policy of his peripheral domains considerably. The small billon issues of the Ensisheim mint during his final decade reflect chronic silver shortages across the Further Austrian lands, which forced repeated downward adjustments to fineness throughout the 1580s and early 1590s. Ferdinand died in 1595, the same year this series ended, leaving his illegitimate Markgraf line rather than a legitimate Habsburg heir to negotiate the territorial succession.
