Additional information

Ramon Berenguer I of Barcelona acquired Carcassonne through his wife Almodis de la Marche in 1067, absorbing the viscountcy into the Barcelonese sphere at a moment when Catalan comital power was aggressively expanding northward into Languedoc. The joint attribution to Ramon Berenguer I and his grandson Ramon Berenguer II reflects the shared authority formalized after the elder count's death in 1076, when the county of Barcelona passed simultaneously to twin sons — and then to the next generation — under arrangements that kept Carcassonne's mint operating under a Barcelona-affiliated name throughout the transition.

Féodales coinage of this region is notoriously difficult to attribute precisely to single reigns, which is why the date range here spans three distinct political moments.
