Philip III inherited the Aragonese crowns — which included Catalonia — separately from Castile, and the Principality retained its own monetary system, minting authorities, and coinage distinct from Castilian issues throughout his reign. The Olot mint was one of several municipal operations licensed to strike small copper under Catalan jurisdiction, a decentralized arrangement that produced considerable variation between issuing towns. Cal#186 identifies this specific Olot attribution within Calicó's corpus of Catalan coinage.
