The upper register displays the letters SCI and the lower register displays GRNI, together forming the abbreviated dedication inscription to Saint Germanus. The letters are rendered in high relief with a somewhat rustic, hand-engraved quality characteristic of ecclesiastical mint production under Carolingian authority. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded border of pellets consistent with the obverse. The flan shows slight irregularity typical of eighth-century hammered silver issues. |
