Otto I of Bavaria's tenure as duke was restored by Emperor Otto II in 976 after the rebellion of Henry the Wrangler, who had briefly seized the duchy and aggressively expanded Bavarian influence eastward. The Regensburg mint — Ratisbonne in its Francophone form — was the commercial and ecclesiastical hub of the duchy, and coinage struck there during this period reflects the administrative reassertion that followed the Wrangler's defeat at Lechfeld.
Kluge Kar#265 places this type within a narrow attribution window that ends with Otto I's death in 982.
