The fragmented legend, reading ANA NAPPA CITAS, is distributed around the field in debased or retrograde Latin letters, a characteristic feature of provincial Ottonian deniers from the Nabburg mint. The die engraving is bold but somewhat crude, consistent with the peripheral workshop style of tenth-century Bavaria. |
