Otto I of Babenberg was installed as Duke of Bavaria in 976 by Emperor Otto II, following the deposition of Henry the Wrangler after his failed rebellion. The Nabburg mint operated under ducal authority during this brief window before Henry's restoration in 985, making the entire output of this issue confined to fewer than a decade of politically unstable production.
