Reverse description A bold pattée cross occupies the central field, enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with the cross arms extending nearly to the ring. The surrounding legend OTTO MARCHI runs in the outer field, identifying the issuer as Otto, Margrave of Brandenburg, rendered in the angular Gothic minuscule lettering characteristic of late 13th-century North German coinage. The flan is notably irregular, consistent with hand-hammered production of the period. The design is typical of the denier type issued by the Ascanian margraves of Brandenburg during the second half of the 13th century.
