Obverse description Central plain cross with a globule in each of the four angles, the whole enclosed within a beaded inner circle forming a cross-and-pellet motif. The surrounding field is bounded by an outer beaded border (grenetis), with the ducal legend distributed around the periphery in Carolingian minuscule-influenced lettering. The overall design is characteristic of mid-tenth-century Bavarian hammered coinage, with irregular flan and somewhat uneven strike.
