| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central field features a stylized cross surmounted by a small foliate or laurel branch motif, rendered in the characteristic flat, linear style of early Carolingian die-cutting. The design is contained within a beaded inner circle. The circular legend HLVDOVVICVS IMP AVG runs around the periphery in bold, slightly irregular Roman capitals, proclaiming Louis as august emperor. The flan is irregular and slightly off-center, typical of hammered silver coinage of the period. The surface shows natural cabinet toning consistent with genuine early medieval silver. |
