The surrounding annular field carries the ruler's name and title in Latin capital letters, commencing with a cross pattée. The legend reads +HLOTHARIVS HPERA, referring to Lothair I as emperor. The die-cutting displays the bold, somewhat rustic lettering characteristic of Carolingian hammered coinage of the early ninth century. |

| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse presents the mint name DORESTATUS arranged horizontally across the field in three lines of bold Latin capitals: DOR on the uppermost line, ES.TA on the middle line, and TVS on the lower line, filling the flan in the characteristic Carolingian palace-type format. The lettering is large and occupies virtually the entire reverse field without an enclosing circle, a typical feature of Dorestad mint issues of this period. The flan shows the irregular planchet shape and surface texture consistent with hand-hammered production. |
