Denier - Liutolf

Liutolf served as Bishop of Augsburg from 989 to 996, appointed under Otto III at a moment when the Ottonian church-state system placed enormous administrative and fiscal authority in episcopal hands. His coinage right derived directly from royal grant — the Bishopric of Augsburg had held minting privileges since the mid-tenth century, making this denier part of a continuous episcopal series rather than an exceptional issue.
