| Obverse description | Central device consisting of two stylized palm trees with spreading fronds issuing from a common base, rendered in a schematic, early medieval style characteristic of Carolingian-influenced papal coinage. A small cross or monogram device appears at the junction of the two trunks in the lower field. The flan is irregular and somewhat broad, with the design occupying most of the available field.
