Obverse description A plain cross pattee occupies the central field, set within a beaded inner circle. A crescent appears in the first quarter (upper left) and a second crescent in the fourth quarter (lower right), flanking the cross. The circumferential Latin legend reads + IOhAnNes, identifying the issuing lord John of Ibelin. The overall design follows the typical Crusader States denier format, with a somewhat irregular flan characteristic of hand-hammered medieval coinage.

Reverse description The central device depicts a stylised fortified tower or keep, rendered with crenellated battlements and a gateway, set within a beaded inner circle. The tower is characteristic of Crusader heraldic imagery and references the lord's domain of Beirut. The circumferential Latin legend + DE BERITI encircles the design, identifying the city of Beirut. The flan is irregular and the strike somewhat weak in areas, consistent with hammered billon coinage of the Latin East.
