Reverse description Central device consists of a plain cross with expanded arms, enclosed within a beaded or rope-like inner circle, a hallmark of Carolingian-derived feudal deniers from the Troyes mint. The four quadrants formed by the cross arms are plain, without secondary pellets or symbols. The surrounding peripheral legend in Latin identifies the mint city of Troyes. The flan is irregular and the strike slightly off-center, as is typical of hand-hammered feudal coinage of this period.
