Herstal, a small lordship wedged between the Prince-Bishopric of Liège and the County of Namur, passed to Henry of Leuven through inheritance lines that were perpetually contested by the Liège episcopate. Henry held the lordship for only three years before his death in 1285, making this denier one of the shortest-lived issues in the lower Meuse regional coinage sequence.
