Reverse description A long cross pattée extends to the coin's edge, dividing the reverse into four quarters. The letters H, A, R, and S are placed individually in each of the four angles formed by the cross arms, spelling the abbreviated toponym HARS for Herstal. The cross arms broaden toward their terminals in the pattée fashion. The flan is irregular and the strike uneven, consistent with hand-hammered medieval production. A beaded inner border is visible around the circumference.
