Obverse description Central field dominated by a cross pattée enclosed within a pearl or beaded inner circle, with decorative elements in each quadrant formed by curved or wedge-shaped ornaments. A circular Latin legend surrounds the inner circle, rendered in the angular, somewhat irregular letterforms characteristic of late tenth-century Bavarian hammered coinage. The overall design reflects the Ottonian-Salian ecclesiastical and regal iconographic tradition common to Regensburg mint issues of this period.
