Within the angles of the cross, the letters of the mint name ARGENTINA (Strasbourg) are distributed, reading A-R-G-E-N-T-I-N-A across the quadrants. The inscription is presented in two lines across the cross arms as ARGEN / TINA, consistent with the standard Strasbourg mint type of Henry II. A beaded border encircles the design, and the flan edges are irregular, reflecting hand-hammered production. The overall style is bold and angular, typical of Rhenish ecclesiastical mint output of the early eleventh century. |
