Henri VI ruled Luxembourg during a period when the county was threading carefully between the competing pressures of the French crown and the Holy Roman Empire. His floret-type deniers draw directly from the French feudal denier tradition, a deliberate monetary alignment with western European commercial networks at a moment when Luxembourg's regional ambitions demanded credibility with Rhenish and Flemish merchants alike.
At 0.53g, these were already underweight against the theoretical denier standard, reflecting the slow silver debasement creeping through the Low Countries feudal mints throughout the latter thirteenth century.
