Additional information

Henri II of Bavaria — later Holy Roman Emperor Henry II — held the duchy from 985 following his father's restoration of the title. The Carolingian denier format persisted well into the Ottonian period in Bavaria precisely because regional ecclesiastical and comital minting authority remained fragmented, with no single reform sweeping it out of use the way the Carolingian capitularies had once attempted.
