Reverse description A plain Greek cross with equal arms is prominently displayed in the centre of the field, enclosed within a beaded or plain inner circle. The cross arms extend nearly to the inner circle, dividing the field into four equal quadrants. A circular legend in uncial Latin letters surrounds the inner circle, reading PRInCEPS AQITAnIE, identifying the issuer as Prince of Aquitaine. The overall style is consistent with the simple, functional design of hammered medieval billon coinage produced under the Black Prince's administration in Gascony.
