| Beschrijving keerzijde | The central field within the beaded inner circle bears the Carolingian royal monogram of Charles (Karolus), composed of interlaced letters in the characteristic Carolingian ligature style. This monogram is enclosed by a beaded circle, beyond which the mint legend is distributed around the outer field in large Carolingian capitals, reading NOVIO-IM, denoting the Noyon mint. A cross pattée initiates the legend. The flan exhibits the typical irregular shape of a hammered Carolingian silver denier, and the die engraving displays the provincial character consistent with the Noyon workshop of the mid-ninth century. |
