The field surrounding the cross within the inner circle is open and unadorned. A circular Latin legend reading the mint name EBROCAS CIVITAS (City of Evreux) surrounds the beaded border, with letter forms consistent with Carolingian minuscule practice. The legend is introduced by a cross pattée, and the lettering is boldly struck, characteristic of the reformed Carolingian denier type established at Pîtres.
