| Beschrijving keerzijde | Central field displays a plain cross pattée enclosed within a beaded inner circle, a standard Carolingian reverse type denoting Christian royal authority. The arms of the cross extend nearly to the inner circle, dividing the central zone into four equal quadrants. A circular Latin legend surrounds the inner circle, reading REMIS CIVITAS, identifying the mint city of Reims. The lettering is rendered in Carolingian capital script with slight irregularities due to hand engraving and hammered striking. The overall design reflects the standardized monetary reform types introduced under the Edict of Pîtres (864). |
