| Popis líce | The central field features the Carolingian royal monogram of Charles II (Karolus monogram), composed of interlaced letters within a beaded inner circle. A surrounding circular legend in Latin capitals, separated by a cross pattée at the outset, reads the royal invocation. The die-cut lettering is characteristic of the Carolingian reform coinage introduced under the Edict of Pîtres (864), with angular, deeply struck letterforms typical of ninth-century Frankish hammered silver. The entire design is contained within an outer beaded border following the irregular flan edge. |
