| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse features a large Carolingian royal monogram occupying the central field, composed of interlaced letters forming the name KAROLVS in the characteristic ligature style used throughout the early Carolingian coinage. A small cross element is incorporated within the monogram, reinforcing the Christian authority of the ruler. The surrounding field retains a beaded border, partially visible on the irregular flan. The design is executed in high relief with bold, somewhat roughly finished strokes typical of hammered provincial mint production. |
