Obverse description Draped and laureate bust of Charlemagne facing right, rendered in the Carolingian portrait style with visible paludamentum folds at the shoulder and a laurel wreath crown. The effigy occupies the central field, surrounded by a beaded inner border. The imperial legend KAROLVS IMP AVG encircles the bust, partially legible due to the coin's irregular flan and a notable chip to the right side of the flan.
Obverse script Latin
Obverse lettering KAROLVS IMP AVG
(Translation: Charles, emperor august.)
