| Opis rewersu | The reverse depicts a frontal bust of Christ or a bishop in high relief, robed in heavily stylized drapery rendered with concentric curved lines, consistent with Ottonian manuscript and numismatic artistic conventions. The figure appears to hold an object, possibly a book or cross, in the lower portion of the design. The surrounding legend carries the Christological invocation IHS XPC RX, identifying Jesus Christ as King. A beaded inner border is faintly discernible around the central figure. The crude but expressive portraiture is characteristic of hammered silver deniers struck at minor Rhenish mints during the mid-tenth century. |
