Additional information

Burchard III ruled Swabia under Otto I, who had reasserted tight imperial control over the duchy after crushing the revolt of 953–954 — the very uprising that opened the political window for this coinage. Minting rights in Swabia during this period were tightly contested between ducal and episcopal authorities, and Burchard's issues from Breisach reflect a brief consolidation of ducal prerogative over a strategically positioned Rhine crossing town.

Breisach's mint was not prolific, and Kluge 254 survivors are scarce in any condition.
