Below the arch, within the arcade, stands a passant lion or similar heraldic beast facing left. A circular beaded inner border frames the design, with a Latin legend running around the outer field. The composition reflects the Romanesque artistic style characteristic of mid-twelfth-century German ecclesiastical and comital coinage. |
