正面描述 Facing bust of Bishop Udalschalk of Eschenlohe, set within a raised inner circle, depicted with a stylized frontal face framed by long braided or wavy hair falling to the shoulders. The bishop wears an ornate mitre or crown decorated with a row of pellets or beaded ornamentation. The surrounding field features a variety of decorative motifs including rosettes, annulets, and foliate or scroll elements arranged around the inner circle, characteristic of the Romanesque bracteate style of the late 12th century Augsburg episcopal mint.

附加信息

Udalschalk von Eschenlohe served as Bishop of Augsburg from 1184 until his death in 1202, a period during which the Augsburg mint produced thin bracteate pfennigs under episcopal authority granted through the diocese's long-standing imperial minting rights. Bracteate production in southern Germany during this period reflects a regional monetary habit that never fully took hold in the west — single-sided struck from blanks so thin they conform entirely to the die, leaving an incuse mirror image on the reverse.

The Steinh#51 reference places this firmly within Steinhilber's foundational corpus of Swabian bracteates, cross-referenced by both Berger and Bonhomme.
