Knut Eriksson's reign established the first recognizable Swedish royal dynasty, and his bracteate deniers represent some of the earliest coins struck under consolidated Eriksson authority in Sweden. Bracteate production — single-sided, struck on thin flans from a single die — was the dominant small-denomination technology across Scandinavia and northern Germany at this period precisely because it was cheap to produce and difficult to clip without obvious damage.
The type's extreme thinness accounts for most surviving damage. Intact examples without cracks are genuinely scarce.
