| Obverse description | Bracteate struck on a thin silver flan, featuring a frontal bust of Emperor Frederick I (Barbarossa) in high relief, helmeted and wearing a crown or coronet, flanked by stylized architectural elements suggestive of towers or city gates, likely referencing the city of Ulm. The emperor's effigy is rendered in a bold Romanesque style with pronounced facial features and decorative drapery visible at the shoulders. The central design is enclosed within a plain inner ring, itself surrounded by a beaded outer border. The overall composition is characteristic of South German bracteate coinage of the mid-twelfth century. |
