Two croziers or pastoral staffs flank the figure diagonally, crossing behind the shoulders in a heraldic arrangement. The bishop's hands are shown clasped or holding an object at the center of the composition. The entire design is set within a raised inner circle, itself enclosed by a prominent beaded border characteristic of Swabian bracteate coinage of the mid-thirteenth century. |

The beaded border is visible in incuse form around the periphery. The thin, uniface nature of the flan produces a characteristic distortion of the design on this side, typical of hammered bracteate technique employed in the Swabian and Upper Rhenish regions during the thirteenth century. |
