Obverse description Enthroned frontal effigy of Empress Beatrice I depicted in full figure, seated on a throne, rendered in the Romanesque style characteristic of late 12th-century German bracteate coinage. The figure is shown wearing a crown and imperial regalia, holding a sceptre in the left hand and an orb or additional attribute in the right. The composition is enclosed within a beaded inner border, itself surrounded by a plain raised rim, with the broad flat flan typical of bracteate technique producing a shallow but detailed relief. The design displays the bold, hieratic artistic conventions of Hohenstaufen-period die engraving, with stylized drapery folds articulated across the seated figure.
