Lindau Abbey, founded on an island in Lake Constance, held imperial immediacy — answering directly to the emperor rather than any intervening secular lord — and this status carried minting rights exercised sporadically through the later medieval period. Bracteate production at minor ecclesiastical mints like Lindau was already anachronistic by 1290; most of the German bracteate tradition had peaked a century earlier in the northern and central regions, making late Swabian ecclesiastical issues genuinely peripheral survivals rather than mainstream currency.
