背面描述 A four-petaled clover or quatrefoil motif, rendered in relief at the center of the coin, with each rounded lobe extending symmetrically toward the inner beaded circle. The design is contained within a beaded border, with a rudimentary outer inscription or pellet arrangement partially visible along the rim, though largely illegible due to the irregular flan. The overall style is consistent with anonymous episcopal deniers of the Ottonian period.

附加信息

Merseburg held unusual political weight around the year 1000 — Otto III had dissolved the bishopric in 981 to create the new see of Giselher, only for it to be restored in 1004 under Henry II following sustained ecclesiastical pressure. A denier struck right at this cusp exists in a strange administrative limbo: the issuing authority was technically suppressed, yet coinage continued under episcopal habit and local necessity.

The anonymous attribution is unsurprising for the period — named episcopal coinage in Ottonian Saxony was the exception, not the rule.
