توضیحات پشت سکه Central device consisting of a plain cross pattée with equal arms dividing the field into four quarters, each containing a small pellet or annulet, all enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The cross design is bold and deeply struck, consistent with the hammered technique employed for medieval episcopal deniers. The surrounding field carries the circular Latin legend CIVITAS EQ`STRI, referring to Lausanne as the equestrian city. The legend is distributed evenly around the beaded border. The irregular flan edges and flat relief are characteristic of the anonymous hammered issues of the Bishopric of Lausanne.

اطلاعات تکمیلی

The bishops of Lausanne held coinage rights granted by the Holy Roman Emperor, but the "anonymous" character of this denier reflects a deliberate episcopal policy — by omitting the issuing bishop's name, the coin remained valid across successive administrations without requiring a new issue at each enthronement. It was a practical solution to the chronic instability of episcopal succession in the Burgundian dioceses during the late thirteenth and early fourteenth centuries.
