| Obverse description | Central field bears the monogram or ligature of Saint Martial (•SM•) enclosed within a plain inner circle, surrounded by a beaded outer border. The abbreviated devotional inscription referencing Saint Martial of Limoges appears in the surrounding legend, rendered in Gothic Latin lettering. The flan is irregular and slightly uneven, characteristic of hand-struck medieval billon coinage. The relief is moderately bold, with the central device occupying the greater part of the inner circle. |
