Obverse lettering + BASIL ... AS
Reverse description Central field displays a bold pattée cross dividing the field into four quadrants, a standard motif on Ottonian-era episcopal deniers. The cross is enclosed within a beaded inner circle. In the four quadrants formed by the arms of the cross, letters of the bishop's name are distributed. A partial Latin legend surrounds the design, reading + ADELRIC..., referencing Bishop Adalrich II of Basel. The hammered flan shows the irregular outline typical of early eleventh-century workshop production.
