| Beschrijving voorzijde | Full-length frontal effigy of the Archbishop enthroned in majesty, vested in pontifical robes and wearing a mitre, his right hand raised in benediction and his left hand holding a crozier. Small annulets appear in the fields to either side of the figure. The rendering is in the schematic Romanesque style typical of 12th-century ecclesiastical coinage, with bold, stylized drapery folds indicated by incised lines. |

Adalbert III held the see of Salzburg twice — expelled in 1177 during the investiture conflicts between Frederick Barbarossa and Pope Alexander III, he was restored only after Barbarossa's humiliation at the Peace of Venice. These deniers were struck across a politically fractured episcopate, and the archbishopric's minting activity during this period reflects interrupted rather than continuous production.
