| Obverse description | Central cross with a pellet in each of the four quarters, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The bishop's name legend ΛDΛLBERO EP (Adalbero Episcopus) is distributed around the field in retrograde or irregular Carolingian letterforms, characteristic of early medieval hammered coinage. The overall design is crude yet deliberate, reflecting the ecclesiastical mint tradition of the early 11th century. |
